A new Report published by the Wlcards discusses the current state of UK payment infrastructure and suggests the actions that would be necessary for PVC cards with EMV chips to be implemented in the UK. The Report, entitled Card Payments Roadmap in the UK: How Will EMV Impact the Future Payments Infrastructure?, outlines the impact of global deployment of EMV plastic cards on the UK market. The report also points to the relationship between EMV, near-field communication technology and contactless payment, all of which are expected to change the face of payment systems in the UK in the coming years. "With Europe, Canada, Latin America and Asia in various stages of EMV chip migration to reduce counterfeit, lost and stolen card fraud and to protect cardholder data, many in the UK payments industry who have examined this technology recognize that it's time to take a fresh look at different approaches to EMV that fit the unique aspects of this market," said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Wlcards.
